Wales ace Ward set to complete Foxes move

-

LEICESTER City have agreed a fee of £12 million for Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward, according to reports.

The Sun claims that Ward will be allowed to speak to the Foxes once the £69 million deal to take Alisson to Anfield has been finalised.

It comes just a week after reports emerged that Liverpool were willing to give the Welsh international a chance to stake his claim for the number one jersey , although it’s understood that the imminent arrival of the Brazilian, who’s set to have a medical with the club later today, has left boss Jurgen Klopp willing to let the 25-yearold move on.

Despite being a key part of the Huddersfield Town side that sealed promotion to the Premier League in 2017 during a hugely successful loan spell, Ward has made just one senior appearance for the Reds, meaning that speculation has been rife over his future for quite some time.

Swansea City were briefly linked with a move earlier in the summer in light of Lukasz Fabianski’s departure, but it’s Leicester who now look set to seal a move.

Ward was due to appear for Liverpool in their pre-season friendly with Blackburn Rovers tonight, but it’s understood that he is now highly unlikely to be included as talks over his future continue.

The proposed move to the King Power Stadium is likely to add to the speculation around Kasper Schmeichel’s future, with Chelsea and Roma recently linked with a move for the Danish international.

However, despite his desperation for first team football, it’s understood that Schmeichel’s future will have little impact on Ward’s move to the East Midlands, meaning he could yet find himself as second-choice again.

Meanwhile Roma’s sporting director Monchi has stressed selling Alisson “would not show a lack of ambition”.

“We weighed up the pros and cons and decided to speak to Liverpool.

“Selling Alisson would not show a lack of ambition.

“For me, ambition is about doing the right thing after really thinking everything through, weighing up the options.

“I came here to build a strong team, not just for one year but for many years to come - and I’m 100 per cent sure that will be the case.

“I understand the fans’ view, I can assure them of that.

“I want them to know we’re working to build a stronger team.”
