-

A HOTEL guest remains unaccounted for after a fire at a hotel in Aberystwyth in the early hours of Wednesday.

Three children and nine adults were evacuated from the Ty Belgrave House hotel on Marine Terrace after a fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday.

Dyfed-Powys Police yesterday confirmed that one man remains unaccounted for.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers are trying to trace his next of kin to update them on this incident.”

An assessment of the hotel has been carried out which has found the building is structurally unsafe, police say, with access to the building expected to be made possible towards the end of next week.

The spokeswoman said: “An assessment of the hotel has been carried out. The building is structurally unsafe and work must be carried out to make it safe to enter whilst preserving evidence at the scene.

“Scaffolding and netting are being put up as a first step. It is anticipated access will be possible towards the end of next week. Police and fire officers will then carry out a joint investigation to establish the cause of the fire.

“Officers and PCSOs will continue with scene preservation duties and cordons will remain in place.”

Anyone with information that can help officers with their investigation is being asked to call police on 101.

Police say if you are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired, you can text the non-emergency number on 07811 311 908.
