See a thriller play out in skies above Wales

IF you’ve seen a 1950s military plane crashing on a popular beach in Carmarthenshire in recent days, fear not.

It was all part of the plan as the 66-year-old Beach Expeditor aircraft is a key prop in an upcoming movie that is being filmed in the county.

Six Minutes to Midnight, which stars Dame Judi Dench and Eddie Izzard, is being filmed in Wales. Many of the film’s scenes have been shot in Carmarthenshire over the past few weeks.

Filming has now taken place on Llansteffan Beach, where the 1952 plane simulated a crash landing on the sand.

Golden Grove Mansion and Gelli Aur Country Park, near Llandeilo, have also been used as locations, while Penarth Pier outside Cardiff was closed to the public for a few days as filming took place at the seafront location.

The film is a thriller set before the outbreak of World War Two.

As well as Izzard, who co-wrote the screenplay, and Dench, the drama will also star British actor Jim Broadbent.

Filming took place in Llansteffan on Thursday afternoon and Thursday night, and again last night and into the early hours of this morning.

Over the past few weeks, stars of the film have been spotted in various locations across Carmarthenshire.

Dame Judi has been seen enjoying some local ice cream at the Tesco store in Carmarthen and in Merlin’s Walk Shopping Centre, while Izzard has been spotted keeping his fitness up with regular swims at the local leisure centre.

Izzard also made use of some downtime during filming by calling the local theatre in the centre of Carmarthen and asking if, seeing as he was in the area, he could do some stand-up material.

An impromptu gig was arranged and the 600-seater arena was sold out within hours.
