Castle grounds up for sale for £100k
GARDEN-LOVERS have been given the chance to buy their own castle grounds – for less than the price of a modest flat in London.
The 37 acres of land lying in the shadow of the impressive Dinas Bran castle in Denbighshire is up for sale for just £100,000.
The medieval castle sits on a hilltop in Llangollen and is surrounded on all sides by spectacular scenery.
Built in the 1260s, the area is steeped in myth and legend with tales of giants slain by Norman invaders appearing in documents from the time. The site also emcompasses an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as well as part of the Dinas Bran Site of Special Scientific Interest, which protects the rare grasslands and plants in the area.
Natural Resources Wales says important species of birds and butterflies “rely on the grassland and other habitats”.
It is also home to upright chickweed, shepherd’s cress and greater broomrap.
Edward Clark, spokesperson for agent Fisher German, said: “We very rarely see sites like this come on to the market. It is a spectacular piece of land offering spectacular views. Due to it being so unique, the site has the potential to attract interest from a number of parties such as local farmers, historical groups, conservationists or local community groups.”
The majority of the area provides rough grazing for sheep, while the lower slopes feature open woodland. The land is subject to Open Access and there are public rights of way leading up to and around the summit.
