Croft and Co hoping life’s a Blast as Glamorgan hunt T20 success
GLAMORGAN will be hoping to maintain their five-game winning sequence in T20 Blast cricket at the Kia Oval today, which represents the start of a busy week with three games in six days.
The Welsh county, who have five points from six games, have not won since beating Essex at Chelmsford almost three weeks ago, but head coach Robert Croft is confident his team can achieve another win in South London.
Speaking after the game against Kent was abandoned without a ball bowled at Sophia Gardens on Sunday, Croft said: “We are a side that feeds off vibes.
“There’s a good vibe here which tends to lift the players, and that’s when the team is at its best.
Croft added: “T20 cricket is a format where individuals can win games at any time and this is an experienced side.
“We trust players to keep looking
to make small improvements which I believe will have small impacts at the end”. Surrey have two more points than Glamorgan and they will again look to their Australian opener Arron Finch to make a sizeable contribution. Finch has scored 315 runs in his four games this season, including an unbeaten 131 against Sussex.
“It would be nice to get him first ball today,” said Glamorgan captain Colin Ingram.
“He’s a very destructive batsman, and has performed consistently for Surrey over the last couple of seasons. But he’s only human, and let’s hope that he can sky one up early on!”
The Welsh county have an unbeaten record at The Kia Oval having won all five of the games at Surrey’s headquarters, including last summer’s game in August 2017 by six runs as a superb final over from Michael Hogan quelled a Surrey revival after they had lost early wickets, including Jason Roy to the first ball of their innings delivered by Lukas Carey. Earlier, Aneurin Donald had led the way the way with a career-best 76 as the young tyro put the much-vaunted home attack to the sword, and all in front of a crowd estimated at over 20,000
After the game on Tuesday, Glamorgan will play Gloucestershire at home on Friday before returning to London on Sunday to play Middlesex at Richmond.
