Blues line up autumn clash with Uruguay

-

CARDIFF Blues are ready to play their own autumn international with a match against Uruguay on Tuesday, November 6, writes Jon Doel.

Los Teros announced their European autumn tour on their website, which takes in four games.

It kicks off at the Arms Park before the South Americans play Ulster, in Belfast, three days later.

On November 17 they will take on Fiji, at a European venue still to be announced, before the tour is concluded seven days later in Bucharest when they play Romania.

Uruguay will be Wales’ opponents in Pool D of the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan alongside, Australia, Georgia and Fiji.

It’s the second tournament on the trot they have been in Wales’ group after winning Americas group qualification.

It came this time around courtesy of beating Kingsley Jones’ Canada by a 10-point aggregate margin over two legs.

Uruguay’s last trip to Cardiff in 2015 was an unhappy one as Warren Gatland’s Wales ran out 54-9 winners in their World Cup meeting with Cory Allen bagging a hat-trick of tries.

The clash comes just two days after John Mulvihill’s region play Zebre in a Guinness PRO14 match at the Arms Park

The Blues previously hosted Australia in 2009 at the Cardiff City Stadium when the hosts suffered a 31-3 loss to the Wallabies. ■■Samoan rugby player Gordon Langkilde will face a criminal trial next month after denying he assaulted three Wales players at the Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament.

Langkilde, who has been released on bail after spending days behind bars following the incident, has been told he cannot leave the US before the trial begins on August 15 in San Francisco.

Prosecutors allege Langkilde punched the Welsh players from behind as they walked down the tunnel following the match on July 21.

He has pleaded not guilty to three charges of battery and one of assault that could see him jailed for up to four years if convicted.

Wales Sevens players Tom Williams, Luke Morgan, and Ben Roach all suffered injuries during the alleged incident.

Williams was reportedly left covered in blood after and is believed to have had his nose and cheekbone broken.

His region, the Ospreys, have spoken of their shock at what happened.

The Welsh Rugby Union has previously confirmed that no Welsh player is facing any sanctions for the incident and confirmed World Rugby would investigate the issue.
