Gove’s mechanical know-how is a joke

BOB Sunman of Cardiff lists several logical, practical reasons why electric-powered cars can never be more than a very small minority of the cars in the UK.

The best that can be achieved is some sort of much-improved hybrid petrol/electric car, and even that would need a great deal of reliance on petrol, since Bob Sunman does not even mention the absolutely main failing of electricpowered cars... the electricity will not exist to power them !

Let’s face it, many politicians of all parties want to close our fossilfuel power stations in favour of wind energy. How ironic is that in Wales when many of them were nurtured in the south Wales coalfield... and it was coal that basically financed their education in many cases?

For three months, May to July, the UK enjoyed beautifully warm weather, with a high pressure overhead... and very little wind for weeks on end!

On several days, wind energy provided less than 150 megawatts while UK demand was close to 40,000 MW. Therefore, wind energy did not power our homes, hospitals, factories and offices, so how on earth could it have powered 20 million cars as well?

Government Minister Michael Gove says that he wants the UK to scrap the manufacture of diesel and petrol cars in the not-too-distant future. Yet Mr Gove took seven attempts to pass his driving test! The man may be highly educated, yet he must be completely impractical. Where is his common sense when it comes to UK energy supply ?

No doubt his knowledge of Shakespeare is excellent, but A Comedy of Errors sums up his technical knowledge and a MidSummer Night’s Dream his political advancement! LJ Jenkins Cardigan
