THE grief-stricken family of a man who died in a tragic road collision have paid tribute to the “most kind-hearted, free spirit you could ever meet.”

Robert Bambridge has been identified by South Wales Police as one of the three men who died in a road traffic collision which occurred on the A4232 early this morning.

The family of the 24-year-old dad, of Pontypool, have paid the following tribute: “Our Robert, the most kindhearted, free spirit you could ever meet.

“Robert lived for his daughter and was at his happiest when they were together walking in the mountains and playing in the swimming pool.

“To say that Robert was much loved would not do him justice for the love that we feel for him, he was a son, brother but most importantly a father and it is tragic that he has been taken from us so soon.”

Two other men died in the collision. All three were travelling in the same vehicle – a grey Ford Focus – at the time.

The driver of a lorry involved in the collision was not seriously injured.

The incident occurred at approximately 4am on Saturday on Southern Way (A4232), Cardiff, about 200 yards north of Newport Road roundabout.

South Wales Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to contact them.

Officers say they would like to speak to anybody who saw the collision, anybody who stopped to provide assistance who has not yet spoken to police, and anyone who may have seen the vehicles in the moments leading up to the collision.

They should contact the South Wales Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting ref *295412.
