Labour too long in power, I regret to say
IT was with astonishment that I read “Ex-police chief to get £69k a year for ‘part-time’ health board role” (Western Mail, August 2).
With respect to Mark Polin, who was probably an excellent police chief, is he an expert on running a health authority? Surely a recently retired consultant or a senior nurse would be better suited?
As a socialist I find the incompetence of how Wales is run appalling. Health boards need sorting out. As someone who has extended family working in the NHS, from consultant to nursing assistant, I hear a lot. This confirms my own experience when I, too, worked in the NHS.
Health boards are top heavy in administrators, who will not sort it out for obvious reasons. Our Assembly government is impotent in this matter. Instead they are planning to criminalise responsible parents for smacking their children.
Even more insane, they are planning to price heavy drinkers into sobriety.
With a heavy heart, I now think Labour have had power too long in Wales. Wales is run by a “one-party state” – absolute power is dangerous.
A recent report from Norway about what a nanny state government can do to responsible parents is truly frightening.
I have been a Labour-voting muppet too! However, it is time for a change at the next election. Norman G Williams
