Heatwave won’t return, predict forecasters

-

AT TIMES it felt like it would never go away – but the recent scorching temperatures and sunshine aren’t forecast for the coming weeks.

However, the Met Office has said temperatures are likely to be warmer than average for many from late August until mid-September.

In July Wales saw temperature records broken, water levels in rivers and reservoirs drop and farmers’ livelihoods affected by the dry conditions.

But with summer drawing to an end, conditions are expected to become much cooler and rain is set to return.

BBC weatherman Derek Brockway added that there was “no sign” of another heatwave.

Met Office forecaster Bonnie Diamond said: “For the threemonth forecast we are likely to see warmer than average weather, but than can be anything from a degree to a couple of degrees more.”

Ms Diamond added that no heatwave was predicted imminently, although temperatures in Cardiff were already slightly warmer than average for this time of year.

Despite the switch to more familiar weather, September is also likely to be better than most years for much of Wales.

From Friday, August 17, to Sunday, August 26, Wales is likely to be spared much of the heavy rain forecast for the UK.

From Monday, August 27, to Monday, September 10, the Met Office said high pressure was likely to be dominating at the start of the period. The west and southwest are likely to see the driest and brightest weather. Temperatures are likely to be warmer than average for many.
