CARDIFF SET FOR FA PROBE

-

THE Football Association has launched an investigation into alleged coin-throwing by Cardiff City fans during their game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Bluebirds were beaten 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium after goals from Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson.

And the FA has confirmed it is currently investigating a claim that coins had been thrown by visiting supporters seemingly in the direction of Cherries goal scorer Fraser in the 36th minute.

It followed reports on social media about the alleged incident.

Neither Cardiff City nor AFC Bournemouth have commented.

Meanwhile, a number of reports have suggested that Tottenham Hotspur have made an offer to the FA to play their Premier League and Champions League home games at Wembley until the New Year.

That would alter the venue for Cardiff City’s away game against Spurs on October 6, currently set for White Hart Lane. other player on the pitch.

THE DEFENSIVE MIDFIELD DILEMMA

WHEN he’s fit, there’s little question that Aron Gunnarsson would be the nailed on first-choice for this role.

The palpable anxiety felt during his contract negotiations earlier in the summer tells you just how highly he is still rated in the Welsh capital, although the amount of time being spent on the treatment table will surely be an increasing concern.

Warnock confirmed after the game that Gunnarsson was set for another two weeks on the sidelines, before suggesting that Arter would slot into the defensive midfield role in the Iceman’s absence.

“Gunnars will probably be a couple of weeks. We’re building him up so he doesn’t come back and break down again,” he said.

“There’s no need to rush him now because we’ve got Harry Arter coming in so there’s no rush on that.”

There are two takeaways to take from those comments

One – it’s likely to be the end of Sol Bamba’s time as midfielder (thank goodness).

Two – it opens the door for Ralls and Arter to potentially play in the same midfield after all.

Ralls himself has all the attributes needed to play the ‘DM’ role, but there’s a hint the Yorkshireman is keen to give Arter the nod.

Whether he feels the two can work alongside each other remains to be seen.
