Four officers injured in west Wales car crash

-

FOUR police officers were injured in a three-car crash in Carmarthenshire.

The collision happened at around 1.20am this morning on the A48 between Carmarthen and Cross Hands .

The two police vehicles - both BMW X5s - were responding to a call when the crash happened, near the junction for the National Botanic Garden of Wales between Llanddarog and Cross Hands roundabout.

Each of the police cars was occupied by two police officers, and all four officers sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.

The third vehicle was occupied by two members of the public who did not suffer any injuries.

Part of the dual carriageway was closed in both directions for almost 10 hours, with the eastbound stretch re-opening at around 11am.

The westbound stretch reopened shortly after 1pm after a clean-up operation and recovery work, but there is still some congestion in the area.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is not involved in the investigation, but Dyfed-Powys Police are probing the cause and the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A spokeswoman for DyfedPowys Police said: “We are investigating a three-vehicle road traffic collision which involved two police vehicles on their way to an immediate call.

“The collision happened at 1.20am this morning on the A48 between Cross Hands and the junction for the National Botanic Gardens.

“The westbound section remains closed waiting for vehicle recovery.

“Members of the public are thanked for their patience.”
