Cycling euphoria is sure to end
THERE is obviously an increasing number of cyclists – an activity promoted by Cardiff Council. This is leading to an increase in confrontations between various forms of transport. To keep a friendly ambience consideration to each other is needed by all, along with an unbiased level of jurisdiction.
I can’t help feeling that people change their mindset to road and walking/cycle trails depending on their mode of travel at any given time.
How to legislate for this is a minefield but if any one group feels victimised there is discontent. Usually any demarcation on rights of way is inhibiting and unfortunately at the moment it is the pedestrian who has in most cases to cede, this is restrictive.
There have been suggestions that they should walk on the left – follow the dotted line-on prescribed dual usage walkways /trails.
This is a non sequitur as these are for all and a decision to implement would be insane.
There is, as you would expect, a national fanaticism with cycling at the moment but once euphoria has abated I trust those responsible will come off their dropped handlebars and see what is around and in front of them and act accordingly.
