Old court to become business hub

-

A LISTED former magistrates court building in Port Talbot is being turned into a new business hub.

The neo-Georgian style, Grade II listed structure, next to Port Talbot Railway Station will be rebranded as The Terminus.

Work on the converting the building into a hub for technology focused companies is now under way and is due to be completed by January 2019.

Construction firm TAD of Llanelli is carrying out the work.

Originally the head offices of the old Port Talbot Steel Company, it was converted into a magistrates court in 1988 and re-opened by Lord Mackay of Clashfern.

The project will support the ongoing regeneration of Port Talbot’s town centre and its surrounding area.

Funding for the £1.5m project has come from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and also through the Welsh Government’s Building for the Future Programme (BFTF).

Neath Port Talbot Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and sustainable development Annette Wingrave said: “The Terminus will be a fantastic addition to the ongoing regeneration of Port Talbot’s town centre.

“The funding will enable us to bring this iconic building back into productive use.

“The refurbishment will result in a high-tech new business centre with the building retaining its attractive façade which will help attract high quality businesses with high quality jobs.”
