Glowing review for Bangor University

-

BANGOR University continues to impress – with a glowing quality assurance report and a top-10 placing for student satisfaction among the most recent accolades.

As the university gets ready to welcome a new intake of first-year students, those new entrants can be assured that a high quality education awaits them at Bangor.

Glowing report from the QAA

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor John G Hughes, welcomed the Quality Assurance Agency’s (QAA) Institutional Review, which was published last week.

“Bangor is the first university to undergo a quality and enhancement review,” said Prof Hughes, “and we found it to be a very detailed and thorough review.

“The findings reflect the high academic standards that are to be found at Bangor, and we are very pleased with the outcome and the report’s findings.”

The QAA highlighted a number of strengths including the university’s deeply-embedded, extensive, and culturally-valued partnership with students and the fact that the university’s approach to enhancing the student learning experience is “effective, student-led and studentfocused.” Top 10 in the UK for student satisfaction

The same focus on the student learning experience is reflected in this year’s National Student Survey (NSS) – which saw Bangor once again ranked among the Top 10 non-specialist universities in the UK.

The survey, a poll of more than 320,000 graduating students at each university in the UK, provides the most comprehensive feedback on the student experience at each institution. This year, of all the universities that offer a broad range of subjects, Bangor is ranked joint 9th in the UK, with an overall satisfaction rate of 88%.

The positive evaluation of the Bangor experience in the NSS was welcomed by the university’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Teaching & Learning, Professor Oliver Turnbull.

“The university prides itself on our excellent teaching and the strong support we provide for our students, and the results reflect this,” said Prof Turnbull. “The NSS data is one of the measures we use to ensure that we respond to our students, and to continually enhance their experience at Bangor. It’s also, of course, valuable information for prospective students, who will make decisions about university places over the next few weeks.” Among the top 100 in Europe

The QAA report and NSS results follows the news of Bangor University’s inclusion among the top 100 European universities in the recent Times Higher Education’s European Teaching Rankings – the first university league table to focus solely on teaching and learning.

This table scored Bangor highly for its inclusive environment and students’ engagement with their studies and their lecturers, the opportunities to develop skills and students’ views on the quality of services at the university.

Bangor University also scored highly for engagement and resources, once again reflecting the university’s ethos of caring for its students and providing a quality experience.

This is further evidenced by Bangor’s success in the 2018 What Uni Student Choice Awards – where the university was ranked top in the UK for both university accommodation and student clubs and societies.
