SO, you’ve got your A-level results and you’re not sure what you want to do next? Or maybe you’ve not got your first-choice university place? Fear not! Did you know Coleg Gwent offers a range of higher-education courses across all five of its campuses? University doesn’t have to cost the earth; as you’ll be studying locally, you’ll save money on accommodation and travel – very student savvy!

There are a range of exciting university courses available from art and design, engineering and psychology to veterinary nursing and sports coaching; the list is endless.

More than 800 students are currently studying a higher education qualification at Coleg Gwent, so why not join them?

Martyn Nash, from Cwmbran, didn’t realise his local college offered university-level qualifications at first:

Martyn said: “I wanted to continue my education but the cost of travel or moving to another city put me off, but being able to do a foundation degree (in business studies) close to where I live meant higher education hasn’t been as expensive as people think it is – especially with the financial support I’ve been able to get.”

Martyn is right, there is a lot of financial support available for students, and if you study with Coleg Gwent you’ll still have access to the grants and loans available as you would have attending a university.

You can apply for a tuitionfee loan and borrow up to the maximum amount to cover your course fees; a loan to help with living costs (which is based on your level of household income); and you may be able to get extra funding if you have adults or children who are financially dependent on you – more information can be found on Coleg Gwent’s website.

You’ll also get help from a dedicated team of support staff, including your own personal tutor, on hand to assist with any questions or problems you may have; and you’ll have access to a students’ union on each campus, learning centres, libraries, and online journals.

Did you know you can even gain work experience on many of Coleg Gwent’s universitylevel courses? This will give you the competitive edge you need on your CV as you’ll get your foot in the door and work with local employers.

And of course, you can still get your cap and gown if you complete a course awarded by one of the partner universities (University of South Wales, Aberystwyth University and the University of Worcester) as you’ll receive a certificate and invitation to their graduation ceremony.
