Mother denies murdering her daughter, four
AWOMAN has denied murdering or unlawfully killing her own four-year-old daughter.
The case of Carly Ann Harris was listed before Judge Eleri Rees at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday for a further case management hearing.
Harris, 37, from Trealaw, Rhondda, sat in the dock wearing a black dress during the hearing, which lasted for about half an hour.
Michael Jones QC, prosecuting, said: “This case concerns the tragic events of June 8 this year in Tonypandy.”
Harris denied murdering four-year-old Amelia Brooke Harris, who was found dead at a property in Trealaw on Friday, June 8. She also denied manslaughter. Harris cried as she entered her not guilty pleas.
A trial date has been set for December 10 at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court.
The defendant was represented by Kate Brunner QC during the case management hearing.
Emergency services were called to an address in Brithweunydd Road at around 10.20pm on Friday, June 8.
Following the incident, Amelia’s family paid tribute to a “fun-loving, caring and bubbly little girl”.
In a statement released by South Wales Police they said: “On Friday night we tragically lost our baby girl, Amelia Brooke Harris, a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, niece and cousin.
“Amelia was beautiful both inside and out – and was a fun-loving, caring and bubbly little girl. She was taken far too early from us and had her whole life ahead of her.
“Words cannot convey how we are feeling at this moment in time. We know our lives will never be the same again.”
The force is supporting the family with speciallytrained family liaison officers.
Harris was remanded in custody.
