WALES has a number of quirky and interesting places you can stay, from hotels to log cabins, treehouses and cottages.

But this house in a field near Cardiff has to be one of the most unique.

That’s because the property, which is located in Pentyrch, comes with a field full of alpacas!

Alpacas – a species of South American camelid – are often wrongly confused with llamas.

The animals are becoming increasingly popular in the UK, with a number of farms and activity providers putting on “alpaca walks” and experiences.

Guests at the Pentyrch cottage can stay in their own private room – which also includes a bathroom and large shower – for just £45 a night.

The price does not include the entire house, only the rented room.

And if you’re lucky, your stay will include a tour of the alpaca field and the opportunity to feed and get up close and personal with the animals.

The cottage has been posted on the private accommodation app Airbnb, with the title: “Cardiff home with alpacas”.

The listing says: “We live in the countryside, but are only 8 miles away from Cardiff (about 20 minutes travelling time) which is developing into one of the major European cities.

“Despite being in the countryside, we are easy to access via the M4/A470. Taffs Well railway station is a short distance away.

“Countryside walks, mountain bike trails, Garth Mountain beauty spot with views over Cardiff and the Severn Estuary.

“Not forgetting that you are very welcome to meet our herd of lovely alpacas!”

The property has received eight fivestar reviews on the Airbnb app.

One guest, named Sally, said: “We had a conducted tour of the alpaca field and learned a lot about them. There is free parking on the premises. I stayed there as I have family in the area, and I would stay there again and would absolutely recommend staying there.”

Another called Rupe, wrote: “Amazing place hosted by amazing people, that have alpacas! Can’t wait to go back.”

And Sinead said: “What an amazing find. Lovely area and the hosts couldn’t do enough for us during our stay. Some lovely touches around the house. It was great to get to feed the alpacas too.”
