We’ve surprised ourselves, admits Nomads manager

CONNAH’S Quay boss Andy Morrison admits the Nomads’ stunning start to the new season has exceeded even his own expectations.

Morrison’s men welcome Aberystwyth Town to the Deeside Stadium this evening looking to make it three wins out of three in the JD Welsh Premier League.

The league’s early pace setters followed up on a crushing 7-0 win at Llanelli Town on the opening day of the season with a memorable 1-0 win over champions The New Saints last Sunday.

Nomads boss Morrison said: “You always hope to get off to a good start and if you take four points from two games normally – when one of those games is including TNS – you’d be pleased.

“But for us to take six is beyond what we hoped for, to be honest.

“We’ve exceeded expectations with the way we’ve started the season in some respects, and we’re pleased with that.

“But, without wanting to trot out all of the clichés and so on, it is still really early and we’re just enjoying the experience one game at a time.

“We’re very much enjoying our football at the moment, there is a great energy around the football club and I wouldn’t want to be coming up against us right now, to be honest.”

Aberystwyth started the season with a 1-0 win over Llandudno but suffered a comprehensive 4-1 home defeat by Cardiff Metropolitan University last time out.

Meanwhile Llanelli Town are back on home turf at Stebonheath Park tonight as they take on Barry Town United.

The newly-promoted Reds will be buoyed by their dramatic last-gasp 3-2 comeback win at Cefn Druids last weekend, having trailed 2-0 at half time, and will hope to give their home fans something else to shout about after the disappointment of their opening hammering by Connah’s Quay.

Barry bounced back from their opening 5-1 defeat at TNS with a 3-2 victory over Bala Town last Sunday.

Bala themselves had three men sent off while also led in that match and this evening they host Cefn Druids at Maes Tegid. The Druids are looking for their first points of the campaign.

There are two games tomorrow. The New Saints face Carmarthen Town at Park Hall looking to respond to that defeat to Connah’s Quay against an Old Gold side who have taken one point from their first two games.

Llandudno face Newtown at

Maesdu Park.

Newtown registered their first points with a 2-0 win over Caernarfon Town at Latham Park last weekend while Llandundo got up and running with a point from a goalless draw at Carmarthen.

Then, on Sunday, Cardiff Met, who only currently trail Connah’s Quay on goal difference, will be looking to make it three wins from three when they tackle newly-promoted Caernarfon at Cyncoed.

Caernarfon’s defeat at Newtown was their first loss since returning to the league having opened with victory over Cefn Druids.
