Clogau defies retail sector’s tough times by expanding

-

JEWELLERY brand Clogau is to open four new stores in a major expansion.

Following the successful opening of its Broughton store in the spring, the family-owned business will open stores in Llandudno, Bangor and Swansea, as well as a new, larger site for its successful outlet at Cheshire Oaks.

This expansion will include moving into the Gregory’s Jewellers stores in Llandudno and Bangor, which are due to close at the end of September.

The stores will create up to 30 new jobs and provide a boost to high streets at a time when the retail sector is struggling.

Managing director Ben Roberts spoke about the exciting new developments for the Bodelwyddan-based company.

He said: “I am really proud to be opening stores close to home where the business first started in Colwyn Bay, our first stores in north-west Wales.

“We have worked closely with Lord Mostyn and Mostyn Estates to develop the store design in keeping with Llandudno and Bangor but also portraying our new look.”

Clogau released its first jewellery in 1994,using some rare Welsh gold from the Clogau St David’s mine in each piece. Since then it has become one of Wales’ most recognisable brands.

It now employs more than 120 staff with plans for that to increase with these latest plans.

The new stores are scheduled to open in October and will come as a new TV advert featuring brand ambassador Gethin Jones and some fabulous festive limited-edition pieces is unveiled.

A spokeswoman said: “As one of the jewellery industry’s most successful omni-channel retailers, the new stores are part of Clogau’s long-term strategic vision. Working with a stellar inhouse team, local partners and national agencies, Clogau has created a retail experience that will delight shoppers.

“Some of the new stores will carry exclusive collections and all will offer Compose by Clogau, the brainchild of managing director Ben Roberts. It’s one of the most innovative and unique bridal jewellery concepts to hit the high street in recent years.

“With the UK high street facing tough trading times, Clogau’s expansion brings a much-needed boost to the local economies where the new stores will be located. Twenty to 30 new jobs will be created and the brand will engage with other local businesses to make the most of the commercial opportunities.”
