Llandeilo is a busy community and town in Carmarthenshire, situated at the crossing of the River Towy, next to the westernmost point of the Brecon Beacons National Park. With a wealth of interesting and individual shops, if you’re after some retail therapy set in a beautiful historic town, then Llandeilo is the place to visit.
The town is named after one of the betterknown Celtic saints of the 6th century, Saint Teilo. Saint Teilo, who was a contemporary of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, established a clas (a small monastic settlement) on the site of the present-day parish church.
Although there are very few facts available about the life of Saint Teilo, it appears that he was highly respected in his lifetime, and revered after his death – with 45 places dedicated to him, some as far afield as Brittany.
After Saint Teilo’s death, there is reasonable evidence to suggest, that he was buried in Llandeilo, where “he spent a solitary life gloriously”.
The parish church of Llandeilo Fawr (Great Llandeilo) is dedicated to this important saint.
Although there is a good selection of antiques at the fair, there’s also a good representation of vintage items.
Although spanning two world wars, the fashion coming out of these vintage eras was both chic and stylish.
From the Roaring 20s to the Fabulous 40s designers were inspired by the fashions coming out of these war periods.
We see how the modern generation are inspired by the trends of those eras and are now using the style in their own individual ways.
The fair will be inspired by the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s with stands showcasing stylish ladies and gentlemen’s fashions, with an emphasis on affordable vintage clothing and accessories.
There will also be vintage style home furnishings mixed in with vintage inspired jewellery.
The fair also boasts a great range of quality antiques from silver and gold watches to Welsh textiles including the much sought after Welsh blankets.
There will be displays of toys and clothes, kitchenalia, up cycled and preloved furniture, militaria and a display of books.
Paintings will include a selection of Welsh artists including works by Pontadawe artist Lynford Jones.
His art uses mixes mediums and the range of pictures depicting scenes of women cockling on the Gower Coast, are stunning.
There will also be a colourful collections of pottery from the nearby Gwili pottery.
