Beckham’s skincare ad puts Wales on display
WHAT do you do if you’re a global superstar like David Beckham and you want to escape the stresses and strains of big-city living? You jump on your motorbike and head to Wales, of course.
That’s exactly what the multi-millionaire former football icon does in a new ad he has filmed for men’s skincare range Acquapower from Biotherm Homme – which showcases some of the most beautiful parts of our fair country.
The moody, atmospheric ad, shot in black and white, sees the style guru power through the roads of mid Wales, via the stunning bridge at Lake Vyrnwy, finishing up for a quick dip at Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall.
Beckham, who is the first global ambassador for Biotherm Homme, the men’s branch of the L’Orealowned Parisian skincare brand, stunned a small village in mid Wales in September 2017 after landing his private helicopter on a local football pitch. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is thought to have chartered the helicopter which landed on the pitch at Llanrhaeadr FC.
The Powys football club joked on Twitter at the time: “Terms all agreed. Contract signed. Only the small issue of international clearance.”
But sadly for the locals, the footballer wasn’t making a shock move to the club – he was in the area to shoot the advert for Biotherm Homme, although at the time it was not known what the advert was for. Nevertheless, he appeared to have enjoyed his visit to the unspoilt Welsh countryside.
He shared a video on his Instagram, which has 50 million followers, of the Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfalls which he captioned: “Ridiculously beautiful”.
Some locals shared their delight at spotting the star, while others took to Twitter to share their disbelief that they missed him.
Twitter user @Williams93 said: “The one Friday night I don’t go home and David Beckham casually lands his helicopter on the local football field... Absolutely gutted!”
Another with the handle @ Vaughaner said: “The one night I’m not in Llanrhaeadr I miss David Beckham... most disappointing night of my life.”
And @lucy_wain said: “I genuinely feel so angry that David Beckham was in Llanrhaeadr tonight and he didn’t let me know... rude.”
