Travellers told to use station loo left stranded

-

PASSENGERS on a train travelling to Cardiff were told they could get off at a station to use the toilets – only for the service to leave without them.

The train was travelling from Haverfordwest to Cardiff, and passengers were told that they could get off at Carmarthen, as the toilets weren’t working.

They were shocked when the train pulled away, leaving six of them behind on the platform.

A girl of 15 who was on a day trip with friends was said to have been one of those left.

The Sun reports that one stranded passenger said: “We heard a whistle and the train pulled out of the station.”

“We managed to find an official, who said he had not been told about the train waiting.”

It is understood that all the girl’s friends were on the train, with their baggage. The stranded girl’s friends waited at the next station in Ferryside.

It is believed that the passengers were on the 7.20am service last Sunday.

The train was reportedly held at Swansea for the bags to be taken off after the stranded passengers told Arriva Trains Wales what had happened.

The passenger said: “I did get to Cardiff but the day was ruined. The affair was thoroughly upsetting. In hindsight it was farcical.”

Arriva Trains Wales has apologised for the incident and confirmed it is investigating.

A spokeswoman said: “We are sorry for the upset and inconvenience caused. We are carrying out a full investigation and our customer relations team have been speaking to passengers.”

Last week Arriva Trains Wales was criticised after it was revealed that the company took 10% of money found in any purse or wallet found on its trains .

The train company has since reversed its policy .
