Murphy, Selman to return for Glammy

-

HEAD Coach Robert Croft has named a 12-man squad for today’s Specsavers County Championship match against Kent in Canterbury.

There are three changes to the squad which was defeated by Gloucestershire last week with batsmen Jack Murphy and Nick Selman returning in place of Connor Brown and Tom Cullen, while David Lloyd is ruled out with a broken finger he sustained while fielding in the slips against Gloucestershire.

With the Welsh county currently in 10th place in Division Two, they will be looking to draw inspiration from last season’s performance away at Canterbury when they finished their 2017 campaign on a high with a five-wicket victory.

In a team consisting of eight Glamorgan pathway players, captain Michael Hogan took ten wickets in the match, while Selman led Glamorgan in the final innings chase with a composed 70.

“We have good memories playing against Kent when we beat them there last year, which was a terrific performance all in all,” recalls Croft.

“There was a group of young men down there at that stage that turned them over so there’s no reason we can’t do it again.

“We are seeing across the country that batting has been a nightmare for a lot of teams.

“When you put so much county cricket at the start of the season and at the end bowlers will lick their lips and batsmen are under real pressure so we’ll be going down there and no doubt it will be a result wicket and we’ll get first use of it with the ball if we want to so we’ll see what pressure we can put the under.”

Kent, mean while, have made one injury-forced change to their squad.

Paceman Ivan Thomas has been ruled out with a knee injury and has been replaced by Mitch Claydon in the 13-man squad.

Last week’s three-wicket win against Middlesex at Lord’s saw Kent remain second on the ladder, 12 points behind leaders Warwickshire.
