‘Time up’ father took his own life at city flat

-

A FATHER OF ONE who refused to take prescribed heart medication and told doctors “his time was up” was found partially decomposed months after he was last seen.

The body of Lyndon Wozencroft was discovered by police officers on April 12 in his flat in Penmark Green, Ely, Cardiff. He would have turned 62 in March this year.

An inquest into his death was held at Pontypridd Coroner’s Court on Monday, September 17.

Mr Wozencroft, who suffered from mental health issues and a heart condition, had last been seen by his niece, Lucy Hooley, when the pair were on the same bus in early January.

The hearing was told that Mr Wozencroft would often lose touch with his family.

But in April a missing person report was filed and just days later he was found dead in his home in Ely after taking his own life.

The inquest heard that he had previously told doctors he had stopped taking prescribed medication for chronic migraines, and medication for a heart condition.

His GP, Dr Das, told the hearing that Mr Wozencroft had said this was because “his time was up” and said he seemed “happy to die of natural causes”. After this, Mr Wozencroft was re-referred to the mental health team.

The hearing was told that Mr Wozencroft’s body was found with stab wounds to the neck and a bloodstained knife was found in the property.

Pathologist Dr Stephen Leadbeatter told the hearing that the likely cause of death was “sharp-force injury to the neck” that damaged a blood vessel.

Assistant Coroner Graeme Hughes recorded a conclusion of suicide.
