Father demands school staff quit after son’s death
THE father of a boy who died following an incident at a Llanelli school is demanding the resignation of certain staff members.
He is unhappy with how some of the staff at the school dealt with the incident which led to his son’s death.
Bradley John, 14, died in hospital on September 12 and his father, Byron John, has alleged he was bullied by other children.
Bradley was a keen horse rider and a popular member of a local “clean-boot” hunt community (where the bloodhounds follow a scent trail).
A social media campaign called Blow for Bradley has seen people who knew him post videos in his memory where they blow a traditional hunting horn.
And there will be a walk through Llanelli to remember him on September 28.
But Mr John is planning his own action in response to his son’s death.
He is set to go to the school today and deliver a letter calling for staff resignations.
“I have been waiting for a meeting with both the police and the school at the same time since the day of the incident, and nothing has happened,” Mr John said.
“So, on Friday at noon, I will be heading to St John Lloyd School to present a letter demanding the resignation of the staff concerned.
“The attempt to completely whitewash the school and exonerate it of any wrongdoing will not be allowed to happen. The school and its staff failed both Bradley and Danielle (Bradley’s sister),” he claimed.
He said there would be a tribute to Bradley at the David Broome Event Centre in Caldicot on Saturday.
“I honestly don’t know if we are going to attend. We are distraught.”
Following the incident, school headteacher Ashley Howells issued a statement paying tribute to Bradley, calling him a “gifted pupil”.
A spokesman for Carmarthenshire Council, which is handling press enquiries on behalf of the school, said they could not comment while an investigation was taking place.
Dyfed-Powys Police has said the death of Bradley is not being treated as suspicious. Officers are continuing to investigate on behalf of HM Coroner.
An inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned at Milford Haven Town Hall.
A further hearing is due to take place on November 30.
