Garin’s late, late show earns Ospreys a dramatic victory

-

GARIN Lloyd’s late try snatched a dramatic 27-22 Celtic Cup victory for Ospreys A against Connacht Eagles in Athlone.

Ospreys’ opening try was scored by Kieran Williams. Connacht replied through winger Hugh Lane’s try but Ospreys were able to extend their lead after Josh Thomas slotted home a penalty.

The teams went in level however after Shane Delahunt was mauled over right on half time.

Ospreys started the second half superbly when Dewi Cross crashed over and then converted but Connacht answered when Lane collected a cross field kick for an unconverted try.

Back came Ospreys and a superb snipe from Reuben Morgan-Williams ended with Guido Volpi going over for an unconverted score.

Connacht’s pack upped the ante and their forward power created the space for Conor Hayes to go over and when Conor Fitzgerald converted, the scores were level.

Connacht were on top at this stage but they missed a drop goal and the penalty which the Ospreys ran which ended with Lloyd’s dramatic score.

Dragons A well beaten 34-17 by Munster A in Cork. They had taken a second minute lead through a Jacob Botica penalty before Munster’s forwards took control, lock Fineen Wycherley scoring in the 23rd minute, Ben Healy kicking the first of three conversions.

The second came 10 minutes later, prop Jeremy Loughman touching down before Dragons closed the gap through centre Calvin Wellington’s try under the posts. Botica’s conversion left the Welsh side trailing 14-10 at the break.

Scrum-half John Poland scored the hosts’ third try, Healy converting and sending over two penalties shortly after before victory was completed by a Calvin Nash try on 78 minutes, converted by Jake Flannery.

There was some consolation from a try at the death from Dragons captain Lennon Greggains, converted by Botica.
