Heroin bag bursts in police station

-

SEVEN people, including four police officers, were sent to hospital and a police station’s custody unit was put under quarantine after a bag of heroin burst.

Police say they began to feel unwell after dealing with a man brought into custody in Ammanford after being arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs.

Dyfed-Powys Police say a bag containing a powdered substance ruptured after the arrested man struggled with officers.

Staff reported feeling unwell shortly afterwards, so were sent to hospital, and the custody unit was put under quarantine for two days.

A spokeswoman for DyfedPowys Police said: “Ammanford custody was put under quarantine on Friday and Saturday (September 28 and 29) after four police officers and three staff officers, including a nurse, were taken ill.

“They began to feel unwell dealing with a man who had been brought to custody after being arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs.

“The man struggled with officers, and during that period a bag with a powdered substance inside ruptured.

“Shortly after this, officers and staff reported feeling unwell. They were examined by the custody nurse and sent to hospital for further consultation.

“The suspect showed no adverse effects.

“The unknown substance was sent for analysis, which established the powder to be heroin and caffeine.”
