Duo face ban over mass brawl

-

TWO Welsh rugby players are set to banned for their part in a violent mass punch-up during a club match last weekend.

Oakdale’s 26-12 victory at Abertysswg Falcons on Saturday in Division Three East A of the National League was marred by two prolonged clashes.

Two players from the Falcons, a flanker and replacement, were red-carded for their part in the shocking brawl.

And Oakdale are poised to hold their own probe into the incident when their committee meet tomorrow night.

A video of the incident has been shared several times on WhatsApp.

It shows the initial fight breaking out when the replacement, who was later red-carded, kicked the ball away after the referee blew his whistle.

It led to some pushing and shoving before a prolonged bout of fighting broke out, with shouts of ‘all of you in’ heard on the video.

Once peace is restored after 40 seconds a second mass brawl breaks out as the Falcons No.7 and Oakdale outside-half begin exchanging blows.

Almost every player on the pitch then becomes involved as several different altercations unfold around the field.

The official manages to calm things down for a second time before dishing out his red cards to the two Abertysswg players.

The Welsh Rugby Union will decide on what course of action to take after assessing the report of the match referee but, if found guilty, it’s likely the dismissed players will be suspended by disciplinary chiefs.

The WRU confirmed yesterday they are awaiting a full report from the referee before deciding what disciplinary action to take.

It’s the latest in a series of violent Welsh rugby clashes over the past year. In April, a game between Sully View RFC and Llanrumney was abandoned after just 55 minutes amid fighting on and off the pitch.

And, back in May, a Welsh player’s sickening punch was caught on camera during a clash between clash between Nantyfyllon and Cwmgors.
