Temperatures soar ahead of Storm Callum arriving in UK
TEMPERATURES could soar into the early 20s across Wales this week – maing it the hottest October day in seven years.
According to records from the Met Office, the average daily maximum temperature for Wales in October is 130C.
But warm continental air is his week set to be pulled in from the south, which will see temperatures rise. While Cardiff could see 200C, temperatures in north Wales could hit 220C.
A Met Office spokeswoman said: “Wales is looking dry today (Monday) but there is the odd shower around and the south is looking quite warm. Temperatures are picking up as we go through the week but it’s looking a bit more unsettled in the north.
“Wednesday will see temperatures of around 200C and then it will cool down a little bit but we are still talking about temperatures in the higher teens.
“On Thursday we’ll see a band of rain coming through and some of the weather will be unsettled.”
Welsh weather presenter Derek Brockway tweeted: “The week ahead – temperatures on the rise and breezy. Wednesday the warmest day of the week in Wales. Low 20s with SE winds from North Africa. More unsettled and windier later in the week with low pressure bringing rain and showers on Thursday and Friday.”
But the unseasonal warmth looks likely to give way to gales and heavy rain.
It is predicted that Storm Callum could be heading into Ireland and subsequently the UK on Friday, with gusts of up to 80mph expected to hit.
