Doctor’s bargain hunt in the capital

-

WHENEVER a new actor takes over as everyone’s favourite Time Lord (or Time Lady), there’s always lots to discuss.

There’s often a new Tardis interior, a new accent, occasionally a new sonic screwdriver and, in Jodie Whittaker’s case, a new gender.

But one thing that’s always discussed by Whovians en masse, is the Doctor’s new outfit – whether it’s a bow tie and tweed or suit jacket and Doctor Martens, there’s always intrigue around the Doctor’s latest get-up.

If you were one of the eight million (or more) who tuned in for Jodie Whittaker’s full Doctor Who debut, you would’ve no doubt noticed that the 13th Doctor bought her latest outfit from a charity shop in “Sheffield”.

However, that English charity shop can actually be found in Wales, rather than South Yorkshire.

It was in a Kidney Research UK shop in Cardiff that the Doctor first donned her clothes, with the store featuring in the first episode of the new series, entitled The Woman Who Fell to Earth.

Staff at the shop on Cowbridge Road East have been sworn to secrecy since filming took place almost a year ago.

The film crew spent an entire day in the shop, with one lucky volunteer, Christine Fowler, being picked to be an extra in the form of a shop assistant.

Head of retail operations for Kidney Research UK, Dorothy Hardie said: “It was a great day and the crew and cast were so lovely.

“I think with them having the first female Doctor, it was even more thrilling to be involved.

Doctor Who returns on Sunday at 6.55pm on BBC One.
