South Africa ending at virtually the same time as his pal’s in Llanelli.

Feeney has also been backs coach of the Auckland-based Blues Super Rugby team and been head coach of Auckland before moving to the Stormers on a three-year deal.

“The club is working behind the scenes and they have spoken to a number of potential candidates,” said Pivac.

“They have got a list of some quality people so I think it won’t be too much longer that we will be in a position to announce something.

“They won’t want to leave it too late I don’t think. They will want to get it done so it is not distraction to anybody and we move on.

“I know a lot of the coaches and make a few phone calls and get information which helps to throw in the mix.

“Ultimately it will be a club decision. They will get my feedback on it but the club are the ones who need to make that decision.

“The club have made it clear they are looking for an experienced head coach. Someone with a proven track record, and performance and winning.

“That in itself probably narrows the field until you get a worthwhile number of coaches to interview. That is where they are at.

“Everybody would have a look there (New Zealand) and see what is available and if it fits what you are looking for.

“They are the current number one in the world and have been for some time so it would be silly not to have a look and see what is available.

“There are coaches that have been spoken to that are outside of that area as well.”

Feeney has already spent time at the Scarlets with Pivac explaining: “He has come to us on a coach development exercise to see how we do things.

“He was here to have a look but he is a coach who is coming off contract at the end of the year.

“I rate him very highly. I have worked with him before at Fiji and Auckland and we have played together.

“We know each other and I know what he can and can’t do - he is an excellent coach.”
