Winter coming howling in next week

-

WINTER is on its way next week.

After unseasonably warm autumn weather in recent weeks, temperatures are expected to fall by more than 10°C.

The cold weather is set to last for the whole of next week and maybe up to the end of November.

Martin Bowles, an operational meteorologist with the Met Office, said: “We expect temperatures on Friday to be 17°C in parts of Scotland and Wales, which is about six degrees above average for this time of year.

“After the weekend, which we expect to be sunny and pleasant, we do expect quite a dip in temperatures with a daytime maximum of around 7°C or 8°C.

“There will be some light frosts quite widely around the country.”

Welsh Channel 4 weather forecaster Liam Dutton said: “This week has been very mild across the UK. A southerly wind has brought temperatures more akin to early October.

“However, next week, it’s going to turn much colder. By the start of next week a bit area of high pressure will develop over Scandinavia.

“This will drag some cold, Arctic air across much of Europe.

“As an easterly wind sets in the UK will experience some of this cold air.

“Whilst the detail is still uncertain, away from the hills, snow looks unlikely at the moment.

“Even though it is turning colder, it doesn’t look like it’ll be cold enough for significant, widespread snow.

“Wind chill will make it feel even colder next week – especially in the south of the UK.”

For much of next week it looks mostly cloudy with the best of the brighter spells in the west.
