Two arrests after Christmas lights fight

TWO juveniles have been arrested after a fight broke out at a Christmas lights event in Cwmbran.

Footage has emerged of an incident after police attended “what should have been an enjoyable occasion for families” in Cwmbran on Wednesday.

Police say the incident happened at around 8pm in the vicinity of Cwmbran bus station.

A male was taken to hospital as a result of his injuries and has since been discharged, a spokesman for Gwent Police said.

Two male juveniles have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The incident occurred on the same evening that families gathered for the Cwmbran Christmas lights switch-on in Gwent Square, organised by the Cwmbran Centre.

A police statement said: “Gwent Police can confirm that two male juveniles have been arrested on suspicion of assault following a disturbanc­e in Cwmbran Town Centre [on Wednesday] evening.

“We continue to appeal for informatio­n and/or mobile phone footage which could assist with our investigat­ion.”

Gwent Police Inspector Phil O’Connell said: “It is disappoint­ing that what should have been an enjoyable occasion for families has been marred by the actions of a small minority.

“We are continuing to investigat­e the incident and our officers will be patrolling Cwmbran today [Thursday] to reassure members of the public and local business.”

A spokeswoma­n for Cwmbran Centre said: “We can confirm an incident took place on land adjacent to the shopping centre on the evening of 14 November.”
