City’s top for tackling tipping and recycling
ONCE again, like a broken stuck record, your correspondent Steffan Webb makes assumptions regarding fly-tipping without any basis of factual evidence.
Cardiff County Council has a fantastic record of clearing flytipping.
Fly-tipping is removed within five days around 99.87%, and a few months ago we actually managed 100%.
The council does not fly-tip but inconsiderate citizens do.
I hate fly-tipping as it’s a blot on our wonderful city, and frankly there are better ways to spend money than picking up dumped rubbish.
Cardiff County Council uses cameras and has been successful in catching fly-tippers.
Nearly everyone has a mobile phone with a camera, and if you see any fly-tipping please film it and send it to me at michael.michael@ cardiff.gov.uk as any evidence will be used to prosecute the culprits.
Mr Webb goes on to mention the previous poor recycling facility at Wedal Road.
Since it was closed there has not been any evidence of increased flytipping.
Both Bessemer Close and Lamby Way are first-class recycling centres, and unlike Waungron Road and Wedal Road are fit for purpose.
Cardiff is the best recycling city in the UK but we need to do more, and that’s why we are conducting the jar and bottle blue bin trial across Cardiff. The results are really encouraging.
This will give us cleaner glass and cost the council less for disposal.
The markets in recycling change on an almost daily basis and we need to change by delivering cleaner and less contaminated material.
As we move forward we need to trial other materials in order to meet the targets set by the Welsh Government and it would be useful instead of Plaid whinging they actually get involved and even turn up and have a look at the facilities this city has.
