DANNY WARD

A mere spectator for the majority of the game until the penalty was sent past him. Not much he could have done.

CONNOR ROBERTS

Got up the right flank well and was rarely troubled defensively. Another fairly positive showing from the Swansea City rightback, who was replaced by Freeman.

TOM LOCKYER

Didn’t have much to do in the first half, though tested further when Albania gained confidence after the break.

CHRIS GUNTER (C)

Given the armband on the night of his landmark 93rd appearance for Wales. Gunter was deployed in the left-back and will be disappointed to lose on such a big occasion for him personally.

JOE ALLEN

The Stoke City man was guilty of misplacing numerous passes in an uncharacteristically poor showing. Ramsey replaced him.

ANDY KING

A fairly quiet outing as he picked up his 50th cap for Wales. Didn’t really make his mark in midfield.

DAVID BROOKS

Continued to play on the front foot as he has done in his international career so far. Headed Harry Wilson’s cross just wide midway through the opening half, but came in for treatment for Albania defence. Sacrificed for Gareth Bale.

HARRY WILSON

Looked lively in the opening half and saw a free-kick go inches wide while he also presented Brooks with a great chance in the 23rd minute. Harshly penalised for the Albanian spot kick and should have had his own shortly afterwards.

DANIEL JAMES

Inch-perfect cross to pick out Sam Vokes in the box early on, but was rarely given the opportunity to run. Replaced by Ben Woodburn.

SAM VOKES

Had a glorious chance just six minutes in, although his header sailed just over the bar. And the Burnley frontman was then thwarted by Etrit Berisha on the stroke of half time. Matondo came on for him.
