Actor says thanks to medical teams for saving his wife

WELSH actor Richard Mylan has not been on social media for more than seven months, and now he has revealed the reason why.

It was because his wife Tammie has been having treatment for cancer.

She has just been given the all-clear and he has taken to Twitter to post a heartwarming message to thank the medical teams for “saving my wife”.

He said: “Since early March this year my wife Tammie has been in treatment for cancer. It’s been a year of extremes with many twists and turns along the way.

“Tammie’s resilience through the darkest and toughest of times is just one of the many reasons why I’m incredibly proud to call her my wife.”

The couple met in Scotland when Richard was playing the role of teacher Simon Lowsley in the popular drama series Waterloo Road, and she was a make-up artist on the show.

They tied the knot in Oxwich Bay in Gower in 2016.

He had not posted anything since the end of March, but returned when Tammie got the all-clear from Charing Cross Hospital on Tuesday.

Richard added: “Thank you to the incredible oncology team at Charing Cross, the medical staff at the Heath Cardiff and of course, everyone at Velindre. Thank you for saving my wife.

“Life/work has been on hold and today we are incredibly grateful to look forward to Christmas, the new year and beyond. Richard, Tammie & Jaco.”

When they got married Richard said: “We met on the set of Waterloo Road, we were both single and we often found ourselves at stupid o’clock in the morning together and we got together really quickly.

“We really just hit it off straightaway. In fact, I pretty much knew as soon as I met her I wanted to marry her.

“I proposed to her on a bench that we used to sit on a lot overlooking the River Clyde. Waterloo Road had finished filming and I was returning to Cardiff and she was going home to Dundee and I set up my camera and said we should take some photos of our special place.

“I think she wondered what on earth I was doing because I kept setting it up for different poses and then I went down on one knee!”

An intimate documentary Richard made about his son Jaco’s autism won two Bafta Cymru awards.

The programme followed the actor and his son as they worked out what could lie ahead for Jaco as he goes through various transitions in his life.
