Music legend makes intimate return

Andy Fairweather Low & The Lowriders, Tramshed, Cardiff

CARDIFF-BORN Andrew Fairweather Low first tasted fame as lead vocalist of ’60s pop group Amen Corner, clocking hit after hit with the likes of “Gin House Blues” and “(If Paradise Is) Half As Nice”, before re-emerging as a solo artist in the early ’70s.

Alongside a prosperous solo career, which has included the acclaimed album La Booga Rooga, Fairweather Low has toured extensively with Eric Clapton, and was the opening act for Clapton’s 70th birthday celebration concerts in 2015.

He also provided backing vocals and rhythm guitar on some of The Who’s greatest albums, such as Who Are You and It’s Hard.

George Harrison was another of the many names that Fairweather Low has worked with, having played with him regularly and even appearing on his Live in Japan album, as well as playing lead guitar during several sections of his tribute concert.

2006’s Sweet Soulful Music saw his first solo album in 26 years, with its release prompting a new wave of tours worldwide, cementing his position in the UK as one of the greatest touring bands.

With the accompaniment of permanent band members Paul Beavis, Dave Bronze and Nick Pentelow, The Lowriders were quickly back in the studio, releasing Zone O Tone in 2012.

Fairweather Low and his band, The Lowriders, returned to touring this autumn, beginning in September, working their way through dozens of UK towns and cities, in order to bring their soulful sound to as many fans as possible.

Excitingly, they’ll now be ending the tour with a final date in Fairweather Low’s place of birth, with a special show at Cardiff’s Tramshed on Sunday, December 9, in what will prove to be an intense, intimate show with only an 800-person capacity.
