NEED TO KNOW

■ ZOE CHAMBERLAIN and her family stayed at the Thistle Kensington Gardens, a fabulously central location with a car park.

■ The hotel is just outside the congestion charge zone, which means you can drive your kids – and all their paraphernalia – right to the hotel without having to pay the fees for getting into the centre of London.

We had a lovely junior suite set in the corner position of the ninth floor, giving us spectacular views of the city landmarks.

It’s right next door to Hyde Park, ideal for kids wanting to burn off some energy.

Kids eat free in the restaurant at dinner (when adults are dining) and breakfast is included for everyone. It features self-service full English, patisseries, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, cold meats and porridge. You helped yourself to tea and coffee too and there were even ripple cups so you could take one with you on your travels – great for tired mums and dads!

One nice touch was the Nespresso machine in the room.

Best of all, you don’t have to check out until 2pm, which means you can leave your stuff at the hotel, go out for the morning, head back for lunch or to freshen up before heading home.
