Driver slashed in face by dark-road attacker

-

A JOINER has described his terrifying carjacking ordeal, which left him needing stitches.

Wayne Edge, 32, was on his way to Angle, Pembrokeshire, at around 5.30pm on Friday, November 30.

It was wet and windy as he drove past Freshwater West. It was at that moment when he spotted a car, still with its headlights on, in a layby.

“It was heaving down with rain, and I did wonder why they were there and what they were doing,” he said. “I didn’t think any more of it at that point but just a bit further on, a guy stepped out in front of my car. Because it was raining and I didn’t know why he was out there, I stopped my car.”

Mr Edge thought that perhaps the man had got lost while out walking after it had got dark.

“All of a sudden, my window was smashed,” he said. “I leaned out of the way and a hand just came in through the window and grabbed the keys. I tried to grab his hand, and he yanked his arm back.

“Then I felt pain in my face where he had slashed me – I didn’t see how or when it happened. I just felt the pain. That’s when I put my foot down and sped off.”

Mr Edge drove off as fast as he could to the nearest police station, which was in Pembroke Dock.

He phoned ahead to explain what had happened and there was an ambulance waiting for him when he got there.
