Woodlands searched for missing man
ASEARCH has been taking place in a wooded area outside Carmarthen as fears grow for a missing man last seen almost three weeks ago.
Gary Shepherd-Mason, who is 54, has not been seen since Thursday, November 15.
He lives in Russell Terrace in Carmarthen and was last seen in the Barn Road area near the centre of the town.
Yesterday morning, eight police officers, accompanied by members of the Western Beacons Mountain Search & Rescue Team, searched a wooded area just outside the village of Trevaughan, to the north of Carmarthen.
A fire service drone was utilised and a police sniffer dog was also involved in the search, which is expected to continue over the next few days.
The search is focusing on a large wooded area around a mile outside the centre of Carmarthen, as it is understood that Mr Shepherd-Mason enjoyed walking there.
Concerns for his welfare have increased after it was revealed that his prescribed medication has been found near his home.
Furthermore, his mobile phone and his bank card were located inside his home, where he lives alone, in Russell Terrace.
Yesterday’s search is not the first one conducted by police officers since Mr Shepherd-Mason went missing, and extensive monitoring of CCTV in Carmarthen has already taken place in an attempt to trace his whereabouts.
There will be a continuing police presence in the Trevaughan area in the coming days as the search intensifies.
Superintendent Gary Mills, of DyfedPowys Police, said: “We are appealing to the public to help us with our search for Gary Shepherd-Mason, and are asking them to search their sheds and outbuildings in case he is taking cover somewhere.
“Gary has been missing since November 15. He was last sighted in the Barn Road area of Carmarthen, but no further sightings have since come in.
“If you notice anything that might indicate that someone has been staying there, please call 101.”
Mr Shepherd-Mason is described as 6ft 1in tall, of skinny build, with brown hair, which he wears in a ponytail.
