Superhero Christmas for the Bluebirds stars

- DOMINIC BOOTH newsdesk@walesonline.co.uk

CARDIFF City’s players celebrated their 1-0 win over Southampton with a spectacular fancy dress Christmas party on Saturday night.

After securing a crucial Premier League victory in the afternoon, it was down to the “serious” business of donning their gladrags and heading to Barcelona to mark the festivities.

And the City stars didn’t do things by half, as these brilliant pictures show. There seemed to be a superhero theme to many of the costumes, with midfielder Aron Gunnarsson one of the most impressive fancy dress efforts, turning up as Batman’s nemesis Bane.

Joe Ralls and Bobby DecordovaReid both came as The Riddler, the villain portrayed by Jim Carey in the 1995 film Batman Forever.

Danny Ward was Harley Quinn, another Batman villain.

Josh Murphy came as Captain America and Kenneth Zohore as Wolverine to continue the theme.

Full back Joe Bennett, who chronicled the evening on his Instagram story, broke the mould by turning up as legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, possibly inspired by this year’s film Bohemian Rhapsody.

Junior Hoilett came as Woody from Toy Story, while Neil Etheridge must have been warm inside an Elmo from Sesame Street suit.

An assortment of the other fancy dress costumes included Callum Paterson as the policeman from Village People song YMCA... and somebody who is keeping their identity secret in a bodyarmour suit from hit video game Halo.

One thing is for certain, there’s no shortage of creativity in the Bluebirds’ dressing room judging from these outfits.

It follows some similarly tremendous efforts last year, when the players went to Amsterdam for their Christmas party with Teletubbies, Buzz Lightyear and an Oompa Loompa all made an appearance.
