Gee whiz! Hat-trick hero Teri leads way

TERI Gee inspired Merthyr returned to winning ways in the Principali­ty Premiershi­p at Bridgend last night.

Wing Gee helped himself to a hat-trick as the double defending champions ran out 24-17 bonus-point winners to maintain their position at the top of the table.

Phil Rees got the other try with Richard Powell sending over two conversion­s as the Ironmen bounced back from defeat at Aberavon last time out.

Bridgend had earlier led inside the first minute through Caine Woolerton.

Nathan Edwards also scored for the Ravens with Jamie Murphy and Ryan Evans sharing duties from the tee as they took a losing bonus point.

Pontypridd put a troubled week behind them as they stayed in the title race with a seven-try salvo against Neath.

Ben Jones, Rob Jones, Alex Webber (2), Shay Smallman, Rhys Shellard and Alun Lawrence all touched down for Ponty in a 45-0 win at the Gnoll.

Elsewhere 14-man Aberavon drew with Gwent opposition at home for the second time this season – this time sharing the spoils with Newport following a 13-13 draw.

Newport led 13-10 at half time through David Richards and Duan Thomas tries with Matt O’Brien kicking a penalty.

Aberavon, having led through Will Price’s try, had hooker Ieuan Davies sent off after a fight broke out as Newport scored their second try.

James Garland booted eight points.

Bedwas plundered a magnificen­t seven tries in their 52-7 home win over Bargoed.

It ended a run of seven games without a win and was their first league victory since November

23.

Adam Williams, Brynley Toms, Alun Rees, Jonathan Davies and Connor Edwards all scored for Bedwas – who were also awarded two penalty tries.

Elsewhere Ebbw Vale slipped to a surprise 29-15 defeat at Swansea. Jay Williams, Chris Morgans, Nathan Trowbridge and Callum Carson all went over for the Whites.

Llanelli won the west Walian derby with Carmarthen Quins 18-12, while a waterlogge­d Pandy Park pitch forced Cross Keys to move their game with Cardiff to Ystrad Mynach with that game kicking off late.

Cardiff went on to win 21-18.
