Family tribute after pub landlady found dead
THE family of a “beloved wife, mother and grandmother” have paid tribute after her body was discovered at a pub.
The body of landlady Judith Ramsden was found at the Gatehouse pub on Monnow Street in Monmouth in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Mrs Ramsdem had been the landlady of the Gatehouse, known as the Barley Mow until 1993.
A statement from her family was published on the Gatehouse Facebook page.
It reads: “It is with our deepest sadness that we are placing this notice to inform of the passing of Judith Ramsden, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother on February 9, 2019. Her passing was sudden and completely unexpectedly. Therefore, due to these circumstances, we will be unable to open the Gatehouse whilst further arrangements are being made.”
The statement added: “We would like to thank our friends, staff and regular customers for their understanding during this difficult time and will be notified of any further information and arrangements for the funeral in due course.”
Friends of Mrs Ramsden and customers have expressed their condolences on the Facebook page.
The emergency services were called to the Gatehouse on Saturday, February 9 to a report that a woman was unresponsive.
A Gwent Police spokesman said: “On the morning of Saturday, February 9, emergency services were called to a report that a woman was unresponsive within a property in Monnow Street, Monmouth. We are currently investigating the circumstances. Next of kin have been informed.”
