Heartfelt tributes after tragic death of student

TRIBUTES have been paid to a 20-year-old student who went for a walk and died a few hours later.

Adam Dewulf-Peters, an international politics student at Aberystywth University, was reported missing on January 25.

He had gone for a walk towards Clarach and did not return. A large search ensued involving RNLI teams and the Coastguard Agency and Adam was located in the early hours of the following morning.

He was treated at the scene by rescuers and taken to Bronglais Hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. Now, thousands of pounds have been raised to help those who tried to save Adam.

A fundraising page has been set by Aberfess Bishops in memory of the student who was popular with everyone in the many university societies that he was a part of.

“Adam went for a hike towards Clarach last week where he later went missing,” said the group.

“Despite the RNLI’s heroic efforts locating him and providing the best care and first aid possible, he sadly passed away.

“He was a loved friend, brother, son, grandson, nephew and cousin who played an important part in so many people’s lives.

“Adam was an incredible guy who was well known and loved throughout the university, with involvement in Aberhike and OTC to name a few societies.

“So in his memory we would like to ask everyone to give even just a £1 towards the charity, as we could make a huge difference for the RNLI as students in Aberystwyth, where they sadly get called out too often.”

The group has already raised almost £6,000, something which has totally overwhelmed the group, whose original target was just £100.

“We honestly can’t believe the generosity of everyone who has donated. Thank you so much, it just shows how many people loved and miss him. I’m sure the RNLI and his family will be lost for words and extremely grateful.”

Tributes have also been pouring in from people who knew Adam, who was originally from Norwich.

Laura Dent said: “Adam was one of the loveliest, cheekiest people I knew at sixth form. Whenever I spent just a few minutes with him, he always managed to put a smile on my face, and he will be missed.”

Jane, Neil, Louis and Joseph said: “An extremely important and worthwhile cause and hope this helps towards honouring Adam’s memory. He was an absolute pleasure to know and our thoughts are very much with you all.”

Another tribute left anonymously read: “Adam, I am going to miss you so much. I am heartbroken. Keep smiling that cheeky grin! Thank you to the RNLI and others for finding him, looking after him and bringing him home. Lots of love always.”
