More thunderstorms are on the way for Wales
Wales is set to be hit by more thunderstorms as a weather warning for the whole country is issued.
The Met Office issued the warning as bad weather moves up from the south tomorrow, bringing up to 40mm of rain in places.
They are warning that 21 hours of thunderstorms could bring a chance of flooding in places, along with possible travel disruption.
The warning is in place from 3am tomorrow morning until midnight.
It states: “Thunderstorms and outbreaks of heavy rain will arrive across the far southwest early on Tuesday, then spreading further north-east across England and Wales and increasing in frequency during the day.
“In a few places there is the potential for 30mm of rain to fall in an hour or two and 40mm to fall in three hours. Many parts of the warning area will miss the heaviest rainfall.”
Met Office forecaster Helen Roberts said: “The warning is in place for most of Tuesday and covers the whole of Wales. There will be an improvement on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday there will be a few showers around, but at the
moment it is looking largely fair for next weekend.
“There is not another heatwave in the forecast at the moment.”
The warning comes a week after Wales was hit by a series of thunderstorms that brought 15mm of rain in an hour.
A house near Wrexham was set on fire after being struck by lightning. Luckily, nobody was injured.
The Met Office forecast for this week is:
■ Today: A drier day, with cloud breaking at times to give some bright or sunny spells. Winds will be light, making it feel pleasantly warm in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 24 degrees C.
■ Tuesday to Thursday: Unsettled on Tuesday with heavy and thundery showers. Showers will gradually ease thereafter, leaving it mainly fine by Thursday. Warm and humid.
The Met Office said no heatwave is showing up in short-term forecasts.
But Leon Brown, head of meteorological operations at The Weather Company’s Weather Channel arm, said: “After the past week’s extreme heat, three more heatwaves are forecast in Britain this summer as air from Africa arrives.”
