Club plea to catch ‘scumbag’ thieves

-

A RUGBY club have put out an appeal after cables for new floodlights were ripped out by scrap metal thieves.

RTB Ebbw Vale only installed the cabling last week in a summer revamp of their Hilltop Stadium ground.

But on Sunday morning officials of the National League Division Three East A club turned up at the ground, for an inspection meeting, to find thieves had struck overnight.

RTB put out on their Twitter account: “Recently, we have had some work done at the field to permanently install some cable so we can use the floodlights for training come the winter nights.

“Unfortunately, some scumbags have taken it upon themselves to rip this cable out of the road and turf in our ground and cut it at the ends to steal the cable.

“If anyone has any information on this and can help us catch the culprits please let us know.”

RTB installed the new floodlights in an effort to save money training during the winter at their local leisure centre.

Club secretary John Boucher said: “What we’ve tried to do over the summer is get floodlights up for our winter training. We’ve had new posts installed and new lights and a chap came in last week dug a big trench to install the cables.

“We were up at the club to do the final inspections on Sunday morning and all the cables have been ripped out.

“Now we’ve got to get new cabling, the guy back to dig it all back out and put fresh cables in.

“The cables costs a few hundred quid and I bet all they’ll get scrap value is probably £50.”
