Teen’s Fortnite cash means it’s game over for disapproving parents

-

A BRITISH teenager has won nearly a million pounds after he and his teammate came second in the Fortnite World Cup finals.

Jaden Ashman, from Essex, and his Dutch partner Dave Jong, 21, saw off more than 40 million players of the computer game before winning the £1.8million prize money between them.

The 15-year-old’s win in New York came despite his mum, Lisa Dallman, previously throwing his Xbox away after she endured a “nightmare” as she tried in vain to get Jaden to spend more time on schoolwork.

After his success, the teenager told how his mother initially thought he was wasting his time.

“Me and my mum, we clash quite a lot,” Jaden said. “...she didn’t understand how it worked, so she thought that I was spending eight hours a day in my room just wasting my time.

“So now that I’ve proved to her that I can do stuff, I’m really happy.”

Lisa added: “I’ve been quite against him gaming. I’ve been more pushing him to his schoolwork. I’ve actually thrown an Xbox out, snapped a headset, we’ve had a nightmare.”

As regards his newfound fortune, Lisa said Jaden was not materialistic, and that she anticipated he would spend the prize money on a “lifetime of Uber Eats”.

The schoolboy’s success has given every teenager in the country the perfect response when their parents tell them to stop wasting time playing on their computer. I can still hear my mum now shouting “You’ll never make a living playing video games” as my Atari loaded up.

I was ahead of my time.
