Five police officers attacked in three incidents

POLICE officers were assaulted in three separate incidents on the same day, with two officers requiring hospital treatment.

On Saturday, August 3, five officers were assaulted while attending three different call-outs, which resulted in six people being arrested.

In the first incident, at around 2.15pm on Saturday, officers were called to a report of theft from a shop in Caerleon Road, Newport.

Three officers attended, two of whom sustained minor injuries.

The third sustained injuries to their head and was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital for treatment.

A 31-year-old man from Newport was arrested and charged with assault on an emergency worker.

In the second incident that day, officers were called at 4.45pm to Abertiller­y, where a 41-year-old man from Newport was arrested and charged with being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

A 40-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place and assault on an emergency worker. She has been released under investigat­ion.

In the third incident, at around 9.50pm, officers were called to a report of disorder at Abergavenn­y Cricket Club.

One officer sustained injuries to their head. A 20-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of public order offences and dealt with via a community resolution order.

A 29-year-old was arrested on suspicion of affray, obstructin­g a constable in execution of duty and criminal damage. He was been released under investigat­ion.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and was released with no further action.
