How they rated
ALEX SMITHIES
Initially looked a little nervous, but confidence grew as the game progressed. Made a great save to deny McManaman in the first half. Questions do need to be asked about his distribution, though.
LEE PELTIER
Once again showed why he’s one of Neil Warnock’s most trusted players. No-one in a Cardiff City shirt made more tackles than the full-back yesterday afternoon.
JOE BENNETT
Similarly solid, bar one moment in the second half when he was pulled out of position and nearly punished by James Collins. Steady showing on the whole.
ADEN FLINT
Another strong showing here. A bustling, physical presence at both ends of the pitch. Took his goal well and made a superb tackle to keep his side in front.
SEAN MORRISON (C)
Better from the skipper. Unlucky not to score early on. Showed signs of a decent partnership with Flint.
JOE RALLS
Pulled the strings well enough in the centre of the park. A typically accomplished and reliable performance.
JOSH MURPHY
Terrorised the Luton defence with his pace. Linked up nicely with Glatzel, but the lack of a real end product will be a frustration. Subbed for Hoilett.
GAVIN WHYTE
Can’t fault his enthusiasm, but his decision-making was a little naive at times. Potential there, but still a little way to to go before he’s up to speed with life in the Championship. Subbed.
CALLUM PATERSON
Always seemed in the right place at the right time to mop up in the final third. An industrious, albeit pretty quiet return.
ROBERT GLATZEL
A tidy debut. Offered pace and height in the final third, and showed some neat touches. Really should have scored midway through the second half. Subbed late on.
